Life After Graduation

Experience Ontario after graduation with a post graduate work permit

You may obtain a Post Graduate Work Permit after graduation. You do not need to have a job offer and there are no restrictions on employment type. The duration of your work permit depends on the length of your program of study.

To obtain a Post Graduate Work Permit, you must have studied full time in Canada and must have completed a program of study that lasted at least eight months at an eligible school. Study periods of less than eight months are not eligible.

You must apply for a Work Permit for postgraduate employment within 90 days of receiving written confirmation (for example, a transcript or an official letter) from your school indicating that you have met the requirements for completing your academic program. You must have a valid study permit when you apply for a work permit.

On April 1, 2009, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced changes to OHIP eligibility to permit PGWP holders to be eligible for Ontario health coverage. Graduating students may take advantage of this opportunity only once regardless of the number of degrees they complete.
